Re: First Campaign Debate
On Saturday September 26th, the California Democratic Council Annual Convention will host a presentation - debate between the Mike Feinstein for the Bay Area Council's - Repair California Organization and Paul Currier, founder and main proponent of the California Action Network.
According the multiple media announcements from Repair California, they will file their two Constitutional Initiatives that call for a California Constitutional Convention on September 25th. The California Action Network requested the actual text of the Repair California Initiatives from Mike Feinstein on Thursday September 24 mid day. There has not been any reply via email or telephone from either Mr. Feinstein or the BAC Front Group - Repair California yet.
Paul Currier is the Author of the only Two Constitutional Initiatives that are now Certified by the California Secretary of State for Signature Gathering and Mr. Currier is the founder of The California Action Network. The California Action Network is the registered main proponent of the only two Certified Initiatives now in circulation. The California Action Network is in no way affiliated with the Bay Area Council or Repair California.
The Bay Area Council thru Repair California has not made any comment on whether or not they seek to privatize the commonwealth of California thru their use of Grand Jury Style Computer Controlled Selection of Convention Delegates.
The California Action Network's competitive Citizen's Initiatives seek to call a California Constitutional Convention (CCC) with democratically Elected Delegates in a non-partisan Statewide Special Election of 400 Citizen Delegates.
The The California Action Network's Initiatives spell out open and transparent methods and process to elect 5 Delegates from each of California's 80 Assembly Districts.
The California Action Network's Initiatives also provide $200,000 of public campaign money for the exclusive funding of the Qualified Delegate's Campaigns, so that any Citizen in California who is illegible to vote may participate in the process. The goal is to elect only those who seek to serve the People of California in a Sequestered Convention.
The California Action Network's Initiatives spell out the sequestration of the Delegates and the Convention to remove the Lobbying and Corrupt Influence Peddling of all Special Interests from this somber mission of the Convention to draft a New Constitution for the State of California from scratch - with the clear intent to model the New Constitution after the clear and concise United States Constitution.
The California Action Network's Initiatives open up all existing 35 Articles of the current Constitution for the re-write so as to re-frame the structure of California according to the democratic will of the elected delegates.
The California Action Network's Initiatives further spell out the participation of the California Supreme Court as non-voting advisors to the Convention. The The California Action Network's Initiatives further grant subpoena power to the Convention to assure the presentations from all sides of every critical issue now before California, due the the failure of our current government and the deep need for total structural reform.
The The California Action Network proposes to open up all aspects of California's Constitution in a "full scope" Convention as all Constitutional Conventions default to this process anyway. The proponents assert that there is to much that needs to be addressed to limit the scope of the Convention to topics that are only good for Big Business and their clear efforts to Privatize the Common Assets of the People of the State of California for the short term profits of private enterprise.
The California Action Network notes that the State Government just in the last 30 days started to sell off California State Parks to Private Developers - specifically the Lennar Corporation, one of the Board Members of the Bay Area Council. This collusion between Big Business and the State Government is fact as spelled out in Senate Bill 792, sponsored by San Francisco Democratic Senator Mark Leno. Only two State Assembly Members voted against this bi-partisan precedent setting action.
The California Action Network anticipates the lively debate between a Citizens Convention and a Big Business Convention will spark the interest and attention of everyone in California.
The The California Action Network has until January 11th 2010 to secure 700,000 signatures on their two Initiatives, as Titles and Summaries were issued by the California Attorney General to The California Action Network on August 14th, 2009.
The Bay Area Council's group - Repair California has about 45 days to wait after they file, before they can start their petition circulation effort, as they have nothing filed yet and nothing that anyone can review.
The California Action Network anticipates the discussion to focus on democracy, the democratic process and who owns California.
Paul Currier posted his draft documents on the Internet for public comment on April 24th of 2009 on his blog:
Internet Alley.
After public review and criticism from multiple Law Professors, Mr. Currier re-wrote his two Initiatives and re-posted his final text on June 15th 2009. After a two week wait - in silence - on June 24th, 2009 Mr Currier filed the two Initiatives now before the people of California in the signature gathering process. Late on Friday afternoon, August 14th, the Los Angeles Times called and informed Mr Currier that he had qualified for signature gathering for his two Initiatives. As Mr. Currier has no sponsors and no money, no one has taken his efforts seriously to date. What we have on hand is a real David v Goliath match up.
